Vincent Leroy installs hovering Point Cloud sculpture in Beijing

At Beijing’s Taikoo Li Sanlitun, French artist Vincent Leroy presents Point Cloud, a monumental kinetic installation unveiled during the 2026 Fashion Festival. Suspended above the open plaza, the work transforms the urban space into an evolving field of color, movement, and reflected light.

Composed of hundreds of translucent discs, the installation hovers like a floating cloud of petals drifting through the air. Activated by wind and changing daylight, the elements rotate independently, generating a constantly shifting composition that moves between density and transparency.

Electric blue, violet, pink, and deep red tones ripple across the suspended structure as each disc responds to subtle air currents. From a distance, Point Cloud appears as a vibrant atmospheric mass suspended above the city. Up close, the installation reveals a more delicate choreography of reflections, transparencies, and overlapping layers of color.

Rather than functioning as a static object, the work behaves like a living environmental system. Individual components continuously converge, disperse, and recombine, allowing the installation to evolve in real time through movement and changing weather conditions.

As sunlight filters through the translucent surfaces, chromatic shadows spread across the plaza below, extending the installation beyond its physical boundaries. Throughout the day, reflections and shifting tones transform the ground plane into part of the artwork itself, immersing visitors within a constantly changing spatial atmosphere.

With Point Cloud, Leroy continues his exploration of air, light, and motion as architectural materials. Installed above one of Beijing’s most active public destinations, the project introduces a softer and more ephemeral presence into the urban environment, where sculpture becomes inseparable from climate, perception, and time.
